The Work of the Holy Spirit

The Christ life is not a self-propelled effort to be good. It is a Spirit-empowered transformation from within., At the heart of the gospel is the gift of the Holy Spirit, the very presence of God dwelling in the believer. He is not a vague force or distant flame. He is Counselor, Comforter, Advocate, and Friend. He not only convicts the heart but indwells it, breathing divine life into mortal clay.

To be led by the Spirit is not to become strange or detached from the world, but to become fully alive in it. The Spirit does not come to suppress your humanity but to restore it. He is the One who awakens desire for holiness, who produces fruit where there was once only barrenness, and who assures us we are indeed sons and daughters of God. To walk is the Spirit is not mystical escapism. It is the daily miracle of living with God inside you.
