Reasons to Believe - Introduction
To believe in God is to awaken to a profound reality that lies beyond the veil of our material existence, a reality that whispers to us through the pages of ancient texts, the grandeur of the cosmos, and the deep stirrings of our own hearts. It is not a blind leap into the dark, but rather an ascent to the light, an intellectual and spiritual journey that begins with the recognition of our own limitations and the wonder that transcend them. In our quest for truth, we find that the concept of a Creator is not an archaic remnant of primitive minds, but a compelling explanation for the intricate order and moral objectivity of the universe. As the eighteenth-century philosopher Immanuel Kant proclaimed, "two things fill me with wonder: the starry sky above me, and the moral law within me." To believe in God is to acknowledge a source of goodness, beauty, and truth that gives meaning to our lives and binds us to a purpose far greater than our fleeting, earthly endeavors. It is, ultimately, a surrender to a love that seeks us out and calls us into relationship that transforms our very being, leading us from the shadows of doubt into the glorious light of faith and reason combined. Everyone comes to belief in God for various reasons, and categories of people will have similar reasons that lead to their assent to belief. The key word is reasons. Belief in God isn't magical or wishful thinking. It isn't an opiate for the masses, or a crust for the feeble minded. Belief in God has a common feature for many of the world's brightest minds, from Kepler to Newton and Galileo and Clerk-Maxwell; Christianity is a well-reasoned belief.
